Dreaming of a stay around Wimereux, the Belle Époque gem of the Opal Coast? Our Blueportel mobile homes in Le Portel put its famous promenade 15 minutes' drive away — while you stay facing the sea, in a quiet clifftop campsite, for far less than the in-town rentals that are snapped up from spring onwards.
Wimereux is one of the coast's most charming resorts: a pedestrian seafront lined with listed pastel villas, genuine village life all year round, and some of the best shore fishing in the region.
Things to do in Wimereux
The must-see is the seafront promenade: a kilometre of pedestrian dyke between colourful 1900s villas — one of the most photographed views on the coast. Stroll it at the end of the day when the light turns golden, gelato in hand, then dine at one of the excellent seafood restaurants in the centre.
At low tide, the rocky foreshore north of the beach is a paradise for shore fishing (grey shrimp, mussels, winkles). Wimereux is also a beautiful stage of the Vélomaritime cycle route along the sea from Boulogne, and the starting point of the GR 120 coastal path towards Pointe aux Oies and Ambleteuse — one of its finest sections.
Why stay in Le Portel to visit Wimereux
Le Portel enjoys a rare central position on the Opal Coast: right next to Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Nausicaá aquarium, halfway between the Two Capes Grand Site to the north and Le Touquet to the south. From our mobile homes on the clifftop of Le Phare d'Opale campsite, Wimereux is a 15-minute drive — and when you return, you get the quiet of a gated campsite, Le Portel beach a few hundred metres away and the sunset over the Channel from your own terrace.
Staying in Le Portel rather than at the destination itself is also a matter of budget and availability: accommodation at the tourist hotspots is noticeably pricier and fills up early in the season, while from here you can reach every destination on the coast without moving base. Le Portel is also ideally placed for British visitors: 35 minutes from the Eurotunnel terminal at Coquelles and 40 minutes from the Calais ferries.

Frequently asked questions
Why stay in Le Portel rather than Wimereux itself?
Rentals in central Wimereux are scarce, pricey and booked early. Fifteen minutes away, Le Portel offers panoramic sea views, the quiet of a gated campsite and a lower budget — while keeping Wimereux, Boulogne and Nausicaá within a 15-minute radius.
When is the best time to see the Wimereux promenade?
Late in the day, when the sun sets over the Channel and lights up the villa façades — and outside summer weekends if you want it to yourself. The Tuesday and Friday morning market is worth a detour too.
How far is Wimereux from the Blueportel mobile homes?
About 9 km — a 15-minute drive from Le Phare d'Opale campsite in Le Portel. Le Portel's central position lets you combine Wimereux, the Nausicaá aquarium (10 minutes) and the rest of the Opal Coast in the same day.
Can I book for just a weekend?
Yes, Blueportel mobile homes can be booked from 2 nights, all year round. Availability is shown online in real time, and booking direct avoids platform service fees.
