Plage de sable et dunes sur la Côte d'Opale, entre Le Portel et Hardelot

Hardelot-Plage — its gently sloping sandy beach, Anglo-Norman villas and 600 hectares of forest — is 20 minutes from our mobile homes in Le Portel. Good news for your budget: Hardelot rentals are among the priciest on the coast, while our clifftop offers genuine sea views for far less.

Between beach days in Hardelot, everything else stays within reach: Nausicaá 10 minutes away, Le Touquet 15 minutes south, Boulogne and its old town 10 minutes away.

Things to do in Hardelot-Plage

The beach first: 12 km of fine sand with a very gentle slope, ideal with young children, lifeguarded in summer and backed by dunes. It's one of the coast's best sand yachting spots (lessons from age 8), and out of season you'll see horse riders galloping along the foreshore.

Then don't miss the Château d'Hardelot, the Entente Cordiale cultural centre with its remarkable wooden Elizabethan theatre (unique in continental Europe, summer festival), the two championship golf courses (Les Pins and Les Dunes, regularly ranked among France's finest) and the forest trails on foot or by mountain bike, between dunes and maritime pines.

Why stay in Le Portel to visit Hardelot-Plage

Le Portel enjoys a rare central position on the Opal Coast: right next to Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Nausicaá aquarium, halfway between the Two Capes Grand Site to the north and Le Touquet to the south. From our mobile homes on the clifftop of Le Phare d'Opale campsite, Hardelot-Plage is a 20-minute drive — and when you return, you get the quiet of a gated campsite, Le Portel beach a few hundred metres away and the sunset over the Channel from your own terrace.

Staying in Le Portel rather than at the destination itself is also a matter of budget and availability: accommodation at the tourist hotspots is noticeably pricier and fills up early in the season, while from here you can reach every destination on the coast without moving base. Le Portel is also ideally placed for British visitors: 35 minutes from the Eurotunnel terminal at Coquelles and 40 minutes from the Calais ferries.
